According to Vanguard, Audu polled 1,109 thus defeating his closest rival Yahaya Bello who received 703 votes.
The chief returning officer for the primaries, Kaduna state Governor Nasir El-Rufai, said following the results declaration:
“What we have seen here today is a reflection of the change we represent. We have ensured the conduct of a free and fair primary election which has reflected the true wishes of our party in the state. I urge you all to embrace the outcome and work for the success of our party in the next governorship election.”

Hameed Yaqeen, one of the aspirants, characterized the process as free and transparent.
Audu thanked members of the electoral panel for ensuring democratic process. He was quoted as saying by NAN:
“Let us work together in harmony , we have serious task ahead. To unseat an incumbent is not easy but we can do it.”
Bello, also lauded the members of the electoral panel for their efforts and advised the winner to live up to his position as a leader and father of the big APC family.
The Paradigm recalls that Audu had been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission shortly after his governorship tenure expiration in 2003. His trial is reportedly still ongoing.
Speaking before the primaries, Audu, the APC politician, said:
“I expect success and victory, Kogi people will experience unparalleled development if I’m ‘re-elected.”
