The US gave the money through the US Agency for International Development in a developmental assistance agreement signed by vice president, Yemi Osinbajo and USAID/Nigeria director, Michael Harvey.

The agreement will cover activities aimed at reducing extreme poverty in a more stable and democratic society between 2015 and 2020.

These activities Harvey said will stimulate inclusive economic growth, promote a healthier, more-educated population, and strengthen good governance.

“This agreement will provide a solid foundation for our two countries to partner together to reduce inequalities across the country,” Harvey said.

The agreement will also align Nigeria’s development plans with sector-specific strategies in various ministries including: health, agriculture, powerand state level government counterparts.

Harvey also commended Osinbajo and the National Planning Commission for their leadership and support of all the activities under the agreement.

This US/Nigeria agreement comes after President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the US and his participation at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Last month, the USAID awarded a grant of $801,000 to the American University of Nigeria, Yola. The fund is aimed to support the activities of the university to improve access to education services for internally displaced people in Jimeta and Yola of Adamawa state.
