BARCELONA SUPERSTAR MESSI SET TO MISS EL CLASSICO
Lionel Messi will miss the first el clasico against Real Madrid on November 22 after failing to step up his recovery from a knee injury sustained UD Las Palmas.
The 28 year old was expected to miss “7-8 weeks” due to a knee injury but is already a week behind schedule in his recovery and “totally ruled out” of the top-of-the-table clash, Barcelona-based daily SPORT reports.
The Argentine has not Begun “continuous running” with just 18 days until the top two La Liga teams meet. Personal physiotherapist, Luis Garcia, usually requires players to train for three to four weeks after running again which means Messi will have only two weeks to train which will be too quick for a return to action.
He said at a press conference: “I have no news. He’s recovering quite normally for a player with that kind of inury. Every player has a different recovery process to go through but as far as I’m aware he is progressing well, as any player would.”
If SPORT is to be believed, Messi will miss Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers against Brazil and Colombia. Argentina has already lost one and drawn one of their first two qualifiers.
Barcelona have won six of their eight games since Messi’s injury, with Neymar and Luis Suarez scoring 14 of the goals netted in the Argentine’s absence.
