NO PLAN TO REDUCE MINIMUM WAGE SAYS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
The federal government has finally cleared the air in regard of the new controversy trailing the call for the reduction of national minimum wage championed by some state governors.
FG has assured that there wont be reduction of minimum wage
The government said that there is no plan to reduce the present national minimum wage of N18,000 because it was a tripartite decision approved by the National Assembly.
This clarification was made by the minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige when he met with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Daily Trust reports.
Ngige noted that those governors who are calling for the increase are only playing politics adding that rather than reduction the government would want to pay workers higher income.
He asked the NLC not to join issue with the governors in heating up the system by talking about either the reduction or increment of the paid.
The president of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba noted that the labour will always put the interest of the country first in its decision making process.
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state had stated that he will ill continue to pay the N18,000 minimum wage in spite of the drop in revenue earnings.
