Jamaican star, Usain Bolt, has retained his world 100m title at the ongoing IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China.
Despite struggling to make it to the finals, Bolt showed up when it mattered most as he ran a season best time of 9.79secs to beat his closest rival, Justin Gatlin, who placed second in the star-studded final race.
The victory in Beijing completes a hat trick of wins for Bolt who also won the 100m at the 2009 as well as the 2013 editions of the IAAF World Championships staged in Beijing and Moscow respectively.
The road to victory for Bolt on Sunday was to say the least not an easy one as the 29-year-old had to put a shockingly bad semi-final heat behind him and get focused in the final race.
Perfectly placed two lanes to his right beside Gatlin, Bolt had his eyes well-fixed on his fiercest rival and he knew deep inside that he has to be at his very best to keep his tag of being the greatest sprinter in history.
Despite trailing for almost all of Sunday’s race Bolt found his rhythm at the dearth as he clawed back into contention and made his giant stride count to win in 9.79 seconds just ahead of Gatlin who clocked 9.80 to finish second.
Trayvon Bromell of the United States and Andre De Grasse of Canada shared bronze in 9.911 seconds.
Bolt is the world and Olympic record holder with 9.58secs but many believed his dominance was threatened having struggled with injuries for the most part of the season.
