The madness is over until the end of January. Transfer deadline day is officially over and teams will now have to deal with the squad they have until the new year.
It has been a relatively entertaining final day despite the absence of Harry Redknapp leaning out of his car window and Peter Odemwingie turning up at any other club than Stoke looking to force a transfer.
Chicharito |
Hull to West Ham – £2 million
With West Ham’s striker crisis, Slaven Bilic wasted no time in adding to his strike force signing Nikica Jelavic for £2 million. He has Premier League experience with Everton and the relegated Hull but will be seen as a bench player when all West Ham’s options are available.
Javier Hernandez
Bayer Leverkusen to Manchester United – £7.75 million
Although this was completed on the final day of Germany’s transfer deadline day, it represents a great coup for Bayer Leverkusen. Manchester United supporters will feel aggrieved that they have lost a proven goalscorer despite already having limited options in attack. They may regret the decision to let Hernandez leave who will also known to be a popular figure in the dressing room.
Virgil van Dijk
Celtic to Southampton – £11.5 million
Southampton supporters will feel delighted that they have managed to secure the signing of former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk. Manager Ronald Koeman has been a huge fan of the player for around a year and finalised a £11.5 million deal on deadline day as he looks set to partner Jose Fonte in the heart of defence.
The 24-year-old, who has Champions League experience, signed a five-year deal.
Victor Moses
Chelsea to West Ham – Loan
The winger thoroughly impressed on loan at Stoke City last season and in pre-season but Jose Mourinho feels his development is better suited on loan. The Nigerian penned a new contract just before being allowed to leave and West Ham’s midfield looks significantly stronger in the side.
David De Gea will stay at Manchester United following a complete debacle over his move to Real Madrid whilst Arsene Wenger has avoided getting involved at all.
Here Turnstyle look at the six best transfer deals completed on the final day.
Anthony Martial
Monaco to Manchester United – £36 million
The signing of Anthony Martial is by far the biggest deal that happened on deadline day. Manchester United sent shockwaves through European football by announcing the £36 million signing of the 19-year-old to make him the most expensive teenager in football.
Time will tell whether it will be a wise investment but Martial certainly has the potential to become one of the most feared forwards in world football. Taking the number nine shirt will only increase the pressure on Martial to perform but United obviously have confidence in the youngster and believe he will be a massive hit in the Premier League.
Papy Djilobodji
Nantes to Chelsea – £3 million
Not quite John Stones or Marquinhos, but the deal to sign central defender Papy Djilobodji will only add competition to the side. He has been signed to be used in a rotation system but the player himself will be pushing for a starting role.
The 27-year-old is rated highly in France but the added competition will only benefit the likes of John Terry and Gary Cahill who will have to improve to keep their place in the side.
