MILESTONE ACHIEVEMENT AS RONALDO SCORES 500TH CAREER GOAL
He's done it. Cristiano Ronaldo has reached 500 career goals after scoring in Real Madrid's Champions League group stage clash at Malmo on Wednesday.
Ronaldo had been sitting on 499 goals for three matches, but he managed to find the net in the 28th minute on the counter attack for the 1-0 lead.
Ronaldo needed 753 matches to reach 500 goals, with 81 coming in 117 Champions League matches.
He also scored goal 501 to match Raul as the club's all-time top scorer.
Now on to 600. If he keeps his torrid pace, that may come next year.
To put it in perspective, Lionel Messi has 467 career goals, while Brazilian legend Pele had 1284. The most ever is Josef Bican who played from 1931-56 and scored 1468 goals.
Most of the guys at the top of the list like Bican, Gerd Muller (1461 goals from 1962-1983) and others played decades ago in an era that had a different style and different types of players. For this era, 500 goals is a huge accomplishment. Romario, who played from 1985-2005, is believed to have scored 932 goals. Not quite sure Ronaldo can get there considering he is 30.
