ROONEY EQUALS BOOBY CHALTON'S RECORD AS ENGLAND BASHES SAN MARINO
England have qualified for Euro 2016, after they battered minnows San Marino 6-0 on Saturday.
Wayne Rooney opened scoring from the spot, with what was a record-equalling goal. It was the England captain’s 49th goal for his country, the same number Bobby Charlton scored for the Three Lions.
The Manchester United player was not given time to break the record, after manager Roy Hodgson substituted him in the 58th minute.
Before then, Cristian Brolli’s own goal doubled England’s lead. Ross Barkley made it 3-0, before Theo Walcott helped himself to a brace, sandwiched between Harry Kane’s strike.
Rooney will get the chance to get his 50th goal, when they face Switzerland on September 8.
