NIGERIAN AND WATFORD FIRING STRIKER ODION IGHALO ENDS GOAL DROUGHT WITH A BANG

ODION IGHALO

Ighalo strike came in the 46th minute as he went past Elliot in goal for Newcastle before slotting home.

The 26-year-old striker will go ahead to assist the second for his team in the 58th minute with a nice touch to Cathcart who made no mistake from close range.

Newcastle however reduced the deficit through Lascelles from a Jonjo Shelvey corner.

Ighalo has now scored 14 league goals this season.

His 14 goals in 22 starts have turned him into one of the Premier League’s hottest properties, with Arsenal and Chelsea weighing up £25 million bids for the Hornets striker.

He had suffered a dip in form since his last goal against Tottenham on December 28.

Watford boss Flores had backed Ighalo to hit the goal trail again today, he admitted it was understandable if he was tired – but there no excuse for his performance to dip.

Flores had said before the game against Newcastle: “I was talking with Ighalo in the last two days because he does not have any reasons (for his performance) to go down.

“There is a reason for him to be tired because he has played nearly every minute during the season, and he has put a lot of responsibility on himself.

“He has tried to relax a little bit, he has tried to clear his mind because we need to see the best of Ighalo, but he also knows the team does not just depend on him.

“In the last few matches I feel Ighalo has been a little anxious with the ball and he has not been the same player, but we are really confident in him.

“He is a clever player and he knows how to solve the situation.”

Igahalo’s ‘Iggy Chop’ skill has added to his rocketing transfer value as he was recently went home with the Barclays premier league player award of the month of December.
