The winner of the 2015 US Open women’s singles final is Flavia Pennetta of Italy.
The Italian woman emerged the champion of the year-end Grand Slam today, Saturday, September, 2015, after defeating her compatriot Roberta Vinci 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 in the final. It is her first Grand Slam single title.At age 33, Pennetta became the oldest first-time Grand Slam women’s champion in the Open Era.

After the match Pennetta made a surprise announcement on court, saying she was retiring at the end of the year. She said it was a decision she made a month ago, when the idea of winning the Open was too far away to even contemplate.
“I would like to say goodbye to tennis,” she said, and added, “This was my last match in the U.S. Open, and I couldn’t think of a better way.”
