Players Who Sustained Injury During the International Break




The international break is one in which club managers never want to think of.

The long distance travelling and jet-lags, the unsuspecting injuries and the morale of players could be affected if things dont go according to plan.

The first stars injured on international duty were Sergio Aguero and Karim Benzema but many more have joined them on the sidelines.

Via a list compiled by goal.com, we take a look at those stars who are currently injured.

Netherlands: Goalkeepers Jasper Cilessen and Tim Krul were both taken off in Netherlands victory over Kazakhstan.

Brazil: David Luiz was substituted during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Chile.



Spain: Alvaro Morata has said he will be available for the Serie A match against Inter Milan despite stretchered from the pitch during his nation’s clash with Luxembourg.

Man City will not field David Silva for the match against Manchester United after he sprained his ankle against Luxembourg.

Germany: Manchester United’s Bastien Schweinsteiger suffered an adductor injury in a training session before the 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland. Mario Gotze tore his abducor muscle in the defeat to Republic of Ireland ruling him out for 12 weeks.

France: Karim Benzema scores two goals against Armenia but he pulled his hamstring late on ruling him out for three weeks. Paul Pogba sprained his ankle picked up in training and reports have yet to give a timeline of how long he will be out.


Argentina: Sergio Aguero’s injury 20 minutes into the game against Ecuador means he will miss the next four weeks.

Serbia: Branislav Ivanovic and Nemanja Matic both picked up knocks in their country’s clash with Albania.


Man City will rue sending another man on international duty. Aleksandar Kolarov limped off during Serbia’s defeat to Portugal, and was later sent off for appealing to the referee from the bench.

Italy: Andrea Pirlo picked up a hamstring injury in training before Saturday’s game against Azerbaijan

Croatia: In the game against Croatia, Luka Modric was taken off as a precautionary.

Republic of Ireland: Shane Long was substituted in his country’s 2-1 loss to Poland after sustaining a knee injury.
