Masked gunmen killed APC chieftain in Edo

A gang of yet to be identified gunmen has killed a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akoko- Edo local government of Edo state.

The Nation reports that the deceased APC chieftain, Captain Samson Amineshi (rtd), was shot dead along the Igarra-Okpe road on his back from a social function in Igarra. He had two other persons with him in the car when they were flagged down by the gunmen. He however dodged them and sped off not knowing others were meters away, waiting for him.

Other occupants were said to be hidden inside the car when suddenly the second group appeared and fired directly at the late Amineshi who was said to have died on the spot while unknown amount of money was collected from the occupants. They were however said to have sped off in a motorbike which they had parked close by.

He was a former councilor in the council and was believed to be preparing for council election to be due soon in the state. Family sources said the matter has been reported at the Igarra police station. But the state police Public Relations Officer, Stephen Onwochei could not be reached as at press time.

Three months ago no fewer than 84 people have been slaughtered in a communal clash in Taraba.
